A new counseling firm contacted me about creating a logo. It was a joy to collaborate with these clients, and we’re already starting on another project! I love all parts of design, but there’s something special about partnering with a new business as we create that icon which becomes a part of their identity. It is so important when making a logo to balance the things that portray the owner’s personality or the company’s atmosphere with elements that make it a well-functioning piece of design.
Many times, people do not want to incorporate a graphic in their logo, because the word “graphic” automatically makes people think of clip art. But something as simple as a sequence of geometric shapes or a strategically placed border around your font gives a reader’s eye a place to rest in a sea of font; this engages the customer and draws him/her into noticing your sign or card or advertisement. Think of the Coke logo. If you see a generic can with a swirl on it, you automatically think “Coke” rather than “Soda.” You remember the design, and the company’s name is attached to that visual memory. The same can be done for your company or organization in a clean and polished, professional manner or with whimsy and flair, but both designs require thought and attention that I am eager to provide my customers.
The Logo Factory provides a great article on logo design and things to consider during development. It really is such a creative but at the same time very methodical process! Call me a nerd, but I LOVE that combination of work!
Typically, in logo design, I will make 7-10 proofs for a client to choose from. With this project I created several more images as I practiced tips from the above article. This project really was more “fun” than “work.”
On that note, here’s another little something fun for YOU! My very dear friend Becky is a Stella and Dot stylist. If you haven’t checked out their jewelry line, you are missing out! This past weekend Jennifer and I hosted a trunk show. It was a great time, and for the next two weeks, we’re continuing our little party online. I’m still trying to decide between these three gems:

Anyone is invited to join us! Simple log on to Becky’s personal website: http://www.stelladot.com/beckywiginton; enter the hostess name Merydwen/Jennifer and then shop away! Not only will you get some cute, affordable accessories, but you will also receive a FREE download! When you place your order, leave a comment or email me and I will send you the following bi-fold with the option of your choice.

Pick either the Thank You card or the monogrammed version to download and print for your personal use. When you visit the Stella and Dot website, you might see where my inspiration came from! ;) ALSO, if you order $200 or more, you will receive a $75 gift certificate from Portraits by Jenn… Isn’t it GREAT to be rewarded for shopping!! If only that happened more often!
I’m a member of a wonderful forum called clickinmoms.com. One of my favorite hobbies is photography. I have several friends in the business, and by the work they produce, I am no where near talented enough to call myself even an amateur photographer! Still, it’s something I enjoy doing. I love capturing the moments of my kids being themselves, because I know this time is fleeting. While they’re camera-hams now, humoring me will soon get old, and the photos I have will become irreplaceable.
With that said, I designed a few cards as freebies for my “friends” on the site, and they’ve been downloaded literally hundreds of times. To have professionals appreciate my work on this level is the perfect Christmas gift for me this year. Everyone has been extremely encouraging and too, too kind… Look at this post that someone made:

And here is another beautiful use of the same layout:

I think there is no greater compliment than professionals choosing to use one of my designs as their personal template for their cards this year. The other card that was requested was a black and white damask pattern on a trifold layout. Here are two beautiful uses of my template from fellow Clickin’ Moms for their family cards:

I am blessed by a wonderful and supportive family, and I am humbled by gracious and kind friends. To have the encouragement of this online community as well is truly a gift, and I just wanted to thank them for helping make this a very MERRY Christmas season for me!
